I have asked myself countless times.... why and when did schools cease teaching Cursive Writing? In the early 2010s when schools adapted the Common Core State of Standards, cursive handwriting was not a requirement. The reason, there was a emphiosis on digital skills, i.e. the use of typing on keyboards and use of digital literacy. Another reason, Time Contrants of teaching cursive, taking away from valuable time needed to cover the core subjects. Some of the authors of the Core Standards also believed that students could communicate more effectively with print handwriting or typing. Finally the shirt towards critical thinking, problem solving, and technology made cursive handwriting skills seem a low priority.
Recently some states have began to pushback and reintroduce cursive writing instuction in the classroom. One of the arguments about cursive handwriting was that electronic devices could not deciper the text. Now many handwriting recognition apps, like Google Handwriting Input, Pen to Print, Writepad for ios, and others now makes the previous argument untrue.
Here are some apps to help anyone learn to write cursive.
